When one purchases land to build a home, or buys a constructed new home, the rituals that follow the purchase and possession are of prime importance. After all, we buy homes in the hope that they will offer us luck, love, prosperity and security. While you may have considered all the odds and ends before making your purchase, the spiritual aspect of your purchase is important, as well.

After all, one’s spirituality is closely tied to one’s health, wealth and happiness. If your spiritual leanings urge you to conduct a ceremony, it definitely must be done!

What is a bhumi pujan?
A bhumi pujan is a ritual that blesses the land you are going to build upon. It is a symbolic way of asking Mother Earth for permission to start construction, and it asks for forgiveness from underground creatures that may be harmed or displaced during the process. The bhumi pujan process ends with the symbolic placing of a foundation stone on the property.

The bhumi pujan process starts with identifying the land, and then cleaning up the area thoroughly. Since it is a holy process in the Hindu dharma, the use of Gangajal is recommended for purification. Once this is done, a reputed priest must be called in to perform the rituals, and to eliminate any Vastu doshas that might exist.

But, one must remember that the bhumi pujan ritual cannot be performed whenever one pleases. One must determine a blessed time to perform the ritual, in order to ensure a positive outcome. Certain times of the year are considered to be unfavorable for any sort of spiritual activity, such as grihapravesh and bhumi pujan.

Those times of the year include the period between Ashadh Shukla and Kartik Shukla. During those months, one must not make any big decisions, or perform major poojas.
However, there are certain grihapravesh tips & dates in every month that are most favourable for Bhumi Pujan. They are:
September 2021: 1st, 4th, 8th, 9th, 11th
October 2021: 18th, 20th, 21st, 28th
November 2021: 3rd, 6th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 22nd, 25th, 29th
December 2021: 1st, 2nd, 9th, 10th, 13th

Do take into account the relevant tithis and nakshatras. When selecting a date according to the Panchang, we suggest relying on a trusted astrologer or priest to hand-pick a date that will give you and your family the most positive outcome.

We wish you a successful and holy bhumi pujan ceremony, and a robust construction schedule that makes sure your property is ready in no time!
