The\nGreater Chennai Corporation has started working towards building a Smart\nTransport System that is set to change the way people commute in Chennai. With\nan aim to install a smart traffic system which would run on GPS-enabled buses\nand intelligent traffic management and information systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After receiving Rs.660 crore funding from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), preliminary work has begun to make Chennai\u2019s transport smarter and more efficient. This updated transportation project involves the development of intelligent apps that provide information about city-wide public transport, number plate reading, advanced monitoring cameras, and priority signals for buses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When completed, it will enable one to find the fastest route and mode of transport to reach a particular part of the city. It will be able to give you real time information about when the bus will arrive at a specific stop, so that you can plan your commute accordingly. The project is estimated to cover areas from Saidapet to Egmore, which includes covering 471 bus routes and major city corridors like Rajiv Gandhi Salai, Outer Ring Road, and East Coast Road. Another phase of this system upgrade involves the development of flyovers and other infrastructural changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
